CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

BODY RECOLLECTION

He stands up and I meet him there, already lifting my lips up to meet his.

Somehow, he manages to get the large pan of remaining food in the house without our mouths ever parting, and when his hands are free, he lifts me up, my legs wrapping around his waist as he carries me upstairs to his room.

Fred’s paws skitter across the hardwood floor as he tries to keep up and I laugh against Theo’s lips. It turns into a groan when he slides me down his body and I feel just how hard he is. I’ve imagined this a thousand times, but it still feels different than I remembered.

Maybe because Theo is all man now.

“Is this really happening?” he asks, kissing down my neck. “I can’t believe you’re here.”

He lifts his head up to look at me.

“And we don’t have to do anything you’re not ready for…” he adds.

“I want to be with you now more than I’ve ever wanted anything,” I whisper, my hands clutching either side of his face. “I never wanted to be anywhere but right here with you, Theo.”

His Adam’s apple bobs as he swallows, and he groans as his mouth crashes into mine. It’s a good thing we’re near his bed because when he lowers me onto it, my knees are so weak I don’t think I could’ve stayed upright for another second.

His hands rest on either side of my face as he hovers over, pulling back from our kiss with a look so intense it’s as if he’s memorizing me. His hand slides up my thigh, under my dress, and I help him by pulling the dress over my head and tossing it across the room.

He grins and then sobers when his eyes skate down my body. A curse hisses out of his mouth, and he leans down, reverently tonguing my nipple over my lacy bra.

“You’ve always been the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen, Sofie Copewell,” he says against my skin. “How is it possible you’re even more beautiful now?”

His lips and tongue trail down my stomach and back up to my breasts, as he undoes my bra and leans back, staring at me. My buds tighten as he watches, and his pupils dilate as he looks his fill and then meets my eyes.

“Are you sure about this, Firefly?” His fingers trace my jawline. “Because once I claim your body this time, I don’t think I can go backwards. There is no halfway with us. You either want this here with me forever, or you need to say so, and I will find that dress and cover this spectacular body back up and tuck you into that guest bed down the hall.”

He waits for me to say something and I open my mouth to speak, still in my lust haze, but he says something else before I can.

“I won’t abandon you either, I swear it. But I need to know that if we do this tonight, you’re here to stay.”

My eyes fill and I swallow hard past the lump in my throat, nodding slightly.
